Doe Boyle

Doe Boyle is the author of fourteen children’s picture books that reveal her passion for nature, wildlife, conservation, and environmental topics. Most recently, she is the author of HEARTBEAT and its companion book, BLINK! (both Fall 2020, Albert Whitman & Company). Coming in March 2021 from Albert Whitman & Company is HEAR THE WIND BLOW. Eleven earlier picture books about such endangered and threatened species as gray wolves, sea otters, caribou, and others were published in association with the Smithsonian Institution and the National Wildlife Federation. For twenty-plus years, Doe’s experiences as a teaching artist have informed her writing and her work with young writers and performers. In the classroom, Doe teaches across the curriculum with writers aged 5 through 15.

Most recently, she is the author of HEARTBEAT (Fall 2020), a poetic exploration of the remarkable science of the heart rates of creatures across the globe, and BLINK! (Fall 2020), an equally poetic companion book about the extraordinary eyesight of creatures around the planet. Coming in March 2021 is Doe’s HEAR THE WIND BLOW, the poetic story of the rising and falling of a storm. Albert Whitman & Company is the publisher of these three titles. Among her earlier books, published in association with the National Wildlife Federation and the Smithsonian Institution, are CORAL REEF HIDEAWAY: THE STORY OF A CLOWN ANEMONEFISH; SUMMER COAT, WINTER COAT: THE STORY OF A SNOWSHOE HARE; OTTER ON HIS OWN: THE STORY OF A SEA OTTER; GRAY WOLF PUP; EARTH DAY EVERY DAY; BIG TOWN TREES; CARIBOU COUNTRY, and others. Doe is also the author of two travel guides to her home state of Connecticut and an editor of adult nonfiction. For twenty-plus years, Doe’s experiences as a teaching artist have informed her writing and her work with young writers and performers. In the classroom, Doe teaches across the curriculum with writers aged 5 through 15. She shares an ancient house close to the sea with her beloved family and a wee flock of speckled hens.
