Biologist Rebecca E. Hirsch, PhD traded her lab coat for a laptop and became a science writer for kids. She has written more than 80 books about science, nature, and discovery for young readers, including picture books, easy readers, informational fiction, hands-on nonfiction, and middle grade/YA nonfiction.

Her books have won the Riverby Award for nature writing (Plants Can't Sit Still), been longlisted for the AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books (When Plants Attack), and been named to Booklist's Top 10 Books on the Environment & Sustainability for Youth (Where Have All the Bees Gone?). When not working on a new book, she can often be found exploring outdoors, nature journal in hand, near her home in State College, PA.
