Ruth Goring’s author-illustrator debut picture book, Picturing God, was published by Beaming Books (2019) and has been named a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard selection. Readers and reviewers always comment on its whimsical mosaic/collage art incorporating tiles, string, rocks, cardboard, fabric, handmade paper, beads, sequins, shells, and other objects. It has been used in video read-alouds in many church children's programs--and sometimes in adult worship.
Her first picture book, Adriana’s Angels / Los ángeles de Adriana, was released in English and Spanish editions in 2017 by Sparkhouse Family (Augsburg Fortress). A Chicago Tribune article about Adriana’s Angels came out that same year; a Chicago Public Radio (Worldview) interview about Adriana’s Angels and a Colombia trip can be heard here. The Spanish edition won a silver Moonbeam award.
Ruth was born in Kansas City but grew up in Colombia and loves speaking Spanish. She believes children have a lot to teach adults about honesty, courage, kindness, and openness to God.
