STAR STUFF: Carl Sagan and the Mysteries of the Cosmos
Drawing is a way of playing and exploring...it is a way to tell stories and make sense of the world, or making nonsense. The most important thing is to express something.
The first things Stephanie expressed with her drawings were mostly some heads with legs and arms coming out of them...eventually she learned to connect the arms and heads to bodies...She liked to draw members of her family and label them. Then she went through a phase at about five where she drew a lot of bees and horses and princesses and also copied Charlie Brown cartoons. Since then she has illustrated many books and sometimes puts her family members, friends and pets in the pictures.
A lifelong traveler, Stephanie began life in Germany . She has lived in Belgium, Minnesota, California, Florida and the island nation of Mauritius. Her travels have taken her all over the world to Africa, Europe, Mexico and across America. She has lived and worked on an organic farm on a mountaintop, surfed the waves off the Central Coast of California and paddle boarded in tropical waters off of the African continent watching sea turtles and colorful fishes. Wherever she goes, a notebook and pencils go with to record observations and make drawings...later these wind up in her library of ideas and images to use in her work.
