Alive and Alert: Record Your Life in a Save-the-Day Writing Journal!
Let’s focus on you!!! Aiming to write a memoir? You are the star! In this writing workshop, author Doe Boyle offers a fresh and fun super-hero approach to first-person narrative. We'll save the day together in this group workshop for up to 10 attendees.
- Alive and Alert: Record Your Life in a Save-the-Day Writing Journal!
In this program I introduce young writers to first-person personal narratives—and the daily habit of writing from the heart. This easy, accessible introduction to memoir allows young writers to capture small but important fragments of their experiences and emotions on paper. Using a simple formula for collecting story in the midst of our most ordinary and extraordinary days, we'll brainstorm ideas for how to save a day. We’ll preserve our memories on paper with words and illustrations. And we’ll bind them in a handmade journal we’ll create together. During the workshop, young writers can work on their save-the-day pieces individually, and then we can share—and applaud!
I will guide young writers with creative visualization techniques to get their imaginations primed and their senses tuned to their “listen, listen, listen” mode.
(Caution: There will be singing.)
Before our program, I will send the group a PDF of simple, memorable how-to techniques for finding story in our daily lives.
Each participant should have these materials on hand:
seven sheets of blank paper, 8.5” x 11”
seven sheets of ruled paper, 8.5” x 11”
