Nature Explorers: Nature Journaling Workshop
Participants should bring paper, a writing implement, and an interesting find from their own nature explorations. Get to know nature while building curiosity, awe and wonder. You'll discover a whole new way of experiencing the natural world!
45 Minute Program
Have you found a treasure while exploring outdoors? Maybe you discovered a strange insect, heart-shaped leaf, or delicate seashell. Bring your item to the Nature Journaling Workshop.
You'll get a chance to share your treasure and tell us how you found it or what you know about it. Then I'll open my nature journals and show you how I make a record of the treasures I find. Finally, I'll guide you as you begin your very own nature journal.
Nature journaling integrates science and art and supports deeper observation, curiosity, and connection to the natural world through the development of writing, drawing, and observational skills. As a nature journaling enthusiast and seasoned science educator, I have experience teaching nature journaling to kids of all ages.
All artistic skill levels are welcome! I'll give a quickie lesson on how to sketch your object. Focus will be on observing and creating a deeper connection to nature.
I will send a pdf handout ahead of time with instructions on finding an item from the natural world.
• an item found in nature
• blank paper or notebook
• something to draw with (pens, pencils, colored pencils, crayons)
