Your Voice Matters! - An Interactive Read Aloud

In this interactive read aloud author Britta Stromeyer Esmail will read her award winning picture book Raina’s (Un) Happy Birthday. Through Raina’s story, kids will act out, jot and draw as they explore themes around friendship, strong feelings, and standing up for themselves while showing love and kindness towards others.

Follow Raina and her beloved stuffie, Lola, on their profound journey from birthday jitters to cake-filled happiness. Celebrate the courage of one little girl’s conviction to decide for herself when to speak up. This relevant and important book shouts YES to sharing one’s truth.

In this fun program, I will offer kids an opportunity to make text to self and text to world connections based on Common Core Standards. Kids will explore similarities and differences in Raina’s story with their own strong feelings, and practice standing up for themselves via self-reflection. The program is designed to be flexible and can be tailored to each child's specific needs. We can focus more on discussion, role playing or drawing to experience Raina's story depending on your child's needs. The bunny Lola from the story will be our special guest during our time together and is happy to answer questions. You will also receive a signed copy of RAINA'S (UN) HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Looking forward to our reading time together.
