This entertaining and educational school visit presentation for grades K–2 reinforces early literacy skills, touches on nonfiction and fiction writing, and inspires students’ imaginations. “Life Cycle of a Picture Book” shares the author’s writing process, childhood, and steps a story takes from idea to publication.
The presentation for beginning readers and writers draws examples from several of Janet’s books. The main featured read-aloud can be selected by the school for seasonal appropriateness, or to emphasize curriculum lessons such as inclusiveness, tolerance, conflict resolution, community, and caring.
The nonfiction segment of Janet’s presentation features her National Geographic books, Rain Forest Colors and Ocean Counting (named a Nat’l. Science Teachers Association Outstanding Science Trade Book).
Students will learn that:

About the Author
Award-winning author Janet Lawler writes fiction and nonfiction picture books and early readers for children. Scholastic Book Clubs and the Children's Book of the Month Club have featured her books, and her work has been translated into several languages, including Spanish, Japanese, and Hebrew.
