Refugees and the New Lives They Build
What does it mean to be a refugee? Where do most refugees come from, and where do they go? Ruth Goring will introduce her story Adriana's Angels as a springboard for learning about--and welcoming--refugees and asylum seekers.

Adriana and her family have to move from Colombia because of danger. They come to Chicago, but their new life there isn't easy either. Ruth Goring will read her picture book Adriana's Angels and invite conversation about refugees and the gifts they bring. The point is not to feel sorry for people who have to flee their homes, but to consider their courage in navigating many struggles.
Adriana's Angels is also published in Spanish (Los ángeles de Adriana), so this visit can be carried out in English, Spanish, or Spanglish!
Note: The story emphasizes God's constant love for Adriana, mediated through a pair of guardian angels, but it doesn't take a sectarian point of view.
Appropriate for one child, a small group, or a school or Christian education class.

Ruth Goring writes and illustrates books for kids focused on social justice, Christian faith formation, and just plain fun. She lives in Chicago but grew up in Colombia, so she's fluent in Spanish. Ruth loves making art with children and listening to their stories and questions.
